“Do we at least know where we’re going?” I ask.

We’re sitting inside the royal limo. It’s being driven by a man with a gigantic walrus mustache.

All of them nod now.

“Back to where it all started,” says William.

There’s a faraway look in his eyes. Like he’s reminiscing of something none of us know about.

“Great. Care to fill me in?”

“We’re headed to the HQ,” smiles Victoria.

She’s sitting right opposite me. Gideon’s hand is on her thigh, holding her possessively. I don’t think he even realizes that he’s doing it.

I’m not jealous. Nope.

Not jealous at all.

It reminds me of absolutely nobody.

“The HQ of what?” I ask, trying to keep my annoyance from showing.

Everybody here knows something that I don’t.

“The headquarters of Eleanor Designs,” says William, filling me in.

His eyes are glued to his phone, probably checking up on Zoey for the hundredth time.

She said that she would stay at home with Jasper, so he’s calling her every five minutes now to make sure everything’s okay.

And when he’s not talking to her, he’s checking all the cameras installed inside their house.

There’s also a whole army situated outside the house, even though it’s in a perfectly safe neighborhood.

He brings his phone to his ear, and taps his feet on the floor. His face grows more and more anxious with every ring.

“Why is she not picking up?” he mutters to himself.

And since we’re all in a closed space, we hear Zoey when she finally picks up.

“Zoey, is everything okay, baby?” William asks anxiously.

“It’s been two seconds since you last called,” she answers.

“It’s my first time being away from you, and-“

“We’ve been apart for months before, and we were fine. So chill,” she says.

Her words make him flinch.

It’s true though. They were apart for a long time before they decided to give their love another shot.

But the situation is different now.

There are men out there who want to hurt us and see us dead.

My sister pauses, and adds, “I’m sorry. I know you hate being reminded of that. You have nothing to worry about, okay? You’ve turned this house into a fortress, and I never want to leave.”

“If you change your mind, just let me know, angel,” he says. “We’ll turn the car around right this second.”

“We’ll be just fine, William,” she says, trying to sound patient. I know that voice. It’s the voice she adopts right before she’s about to blow up.

But instead of blowing up on him, she video calls him.

He picks up.

I watch as all the frown lines disappear from his face as he looks at her, and at the baby they made.

Any other woman would have felt like she was being smothered, but Zoey and William understand each other too well for that.

She once admitted to me that she secretly loves how protective he is of her.

“See? Nothing to worry about,” she assures him, holding up a juice box. “We’re just having apple juice.”

Jasper barely even looks at his Dad.

All of his attention is zoned in on the pink sippy cup in his hands.
